Being resilient means having the ability to face, overcome, and even become personally strengthened by the challenges and problems of life. Embodiment is the ability to be present and to notice the feelings and sensations in our body. Resilient Embodiment is finding the strength to face life's challenges by being in the present moment, noticing and becoming aware of our feelings and sensations, and learning to use the mind and the body together to enjoy a less stressful and more fulfilling life.
As a practitioner of yoga for many years, I have seen the ability of yoga to heal people emotionally and physically. Yoga means "union", or "to yoke", it is a way of uniting the mind and the body. Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is an evidence-based adjunct therapy for treatment-resistant complex trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). As a form of healing embodiment, TCTSY can help to restore the mind-body connections that may have been disrupted due to trauma. offering trauma survivors the possibility to feel at home in their bodies.

Hello, I'm Audrey McGee, the owner of Resilient Embodiment Yoga, LLC. A graduate of the University of Maine, I completed an Interdisciplinary Studies degree in Interdisciplinary Studies of Embodied Social Justice: Culture, Community, and Trauma. Embodied physical practices have helped me to be present in my own life, and I believe that everyone should be able to benefit from the healing these practices provide. When one person heals, the community heals, as the effects rippling out like rings on a pond.

Trauma is what happens when when a person experiences circumstances or events that are difficult for the mind and body to comprehend or integrate. It may be a one-time event or a series of ongoing events. Many survivors learn shut down or deny their body's signals and feelings as a coping mechanism to deal with what is happening. The memories and feelings get compartmentalized which causes a disruption in the mind-body connection. It then difficult for survivors to identify their feelings or the sensations in their body. This can have a disruptive and unbalancing effect on their daily life of the survivor who may become overwhelmed with emotion or become unable to experience sensation in their body, activated by seemingly unrelated events in the present moment.
Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga is an evidence-based, adjunctive therapy for survivors of complex trauma and treatment-resistant post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Through the practice of yoga and yoga principles, it can help restore the mind-body connection that may have been disrupted due to trauma. As a form of healing embodiment, it can provide trauma survivors with a safe space to experience the feelings and sensations of their body, providing body autonomy and the ability to make choices about what is or is not right for them. TCTSY can give them the possibility of feeling at home in their own skin.
